Northumberland Youth For Christ

"What we do!!"
For your information, here is a list of services, programs and ministry
activities that we offer on behalf of the Christian Community
in Northumberland County.
We seek to work in partnerships whenever possible and with people of
every 'nation, tribe, and tongue'.
- Weekly small group meetings for youth.
- In school services:
- Staff and volunteers currently serving weekly in 4
high schools, 2
elementary schools, and routine contact with many more schools.
- Three youth centres - The Silverworks in Cobourg, The
Outback in Port
Hope, and The Beacon in Brighton.
- Counselling services to youth and their families in
areas of: suicidal
behaviour, self-esteem, depression, self-mutilation, substance abuse,
family breakdowns, grief management, truancy, eating disorders, etc...
- Assistance in finding alternative housing for youth in
crisis.

women &
infants, and in partnership with Alpha House).
- Personal support work for youth with special needs,
including learning
and social disorders.
- Certified Birth Doula to provide personal support for
pregnant and
parenting youth.
- Abuse prevention and crisis intervention.
- Character development.
- Spiritual development for youth and their families.
- Worship experiences with a youth focus.
- Student leadership development
- Supply of personal computer equipment to financially
disadvantaged
students heading to college and university.
- Consultation and training on trends in youth culture
for teachers,
churches, youth agencies.
- Restorative Justice conferencing, training and
development.
- International mission experiences.
- Regular weekly contact with a minimum of 200 youth
across the county.
- Periodic contact with upwards of 1,000 youth in any
one week through
special events.
This is all accomplished with 4 full time staff, 2 part time staff (1
of whom we are trying to get to full time) and approximately 85
volunteers.
- - Our ministry presents the person and values of Jesus
Christ while
caring for the whole person.
- - Quality contact with youth and their
families is the key.
- - Our vision is to build people, not
programs. This means a one-on-one and small group focus.
- - Although we have, and periodically do, run large
scale events, these
are not our primary focus.
- - More than anything else, youth need
high quality mentors and responsible adults who are willing to pour
their lives and resources into young people.
- - This is what we do!
