Mission Outline for July 3rd to August 7, 2009

Northumberland YFC is a Christian ministry to youth and their families. We provide many services including, counselling, leadership development and advocacy. We are an organization dedicated to working with youth, families and communities to overcome despair, injustice and poverty. As followers of Jesus, we are motivated by God's love for all people regardless of race, religion, gender or ethnicity. The vision of Northumberland Youth For Christ is to build a committed and responsible generation of believers in Jesus Christ.

One of the established goals of Northumberland Youth For Christ is to actively and intentionally pursue Compassionate Ministries locally and through involvement in Global Ministry.

Specifically, it has been determined by the NYFC Board of Directors that we will join with West Africa Region Youth For Christ in the development of official ministry partnerships. We have a 10 year history of partnership with YFC West Africa.

Therefore, the 2009 mission trip to Ghana, West Africa has the following purposes:

  1. To further encourage and support -through finances, physical labour, and teaching - the specific goals and objectives of Ghana Youth For Christ/West Africa.
  2. To strengthen existing, and forge new, partnerships between the Christian communities in Ghana, West Africa and Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada.
  3. We will do this by mounting a 30 day in-country mission to the southern coastal region of Ghana, West Africa. This team will consist of youth, young adults, and adults, from central Ontario and will be co-ordinated by Northumberland Youth For Christ.

The mission resources (time, personnel, and finances) will be allocated as follows:

30% - - - - Construction of the West Africa YFC youth leadership training centre in Kokrobite.

30% - - - -Encouragement of local churches and Christian/youth ministries through participation in church services, singing, preaching, teaching, etc. (ie. Serving as requested)

20% - - - -Teaching ministry, which may include components such as child and youth ministry (bible stories, games etc.), computer literacy, ESL, environmental stewardship, etc..

10% - - - -  Poverty relief, direct outreach, other projects as determined by Ghana YFC andthe mission's leaders. This may include volunteer work at a local medical clinic.

The principles which provide the context for this mission include the following commitments:
